Plenty has happened over the past week and plenty will happen in the upcomming week. We mourn the loss of NBC's Tim Russert, we cheer the long-awaited endorsement Al Gore made for Barack Obama and we get in high gear for this weekends National Mayor's Conference. The what you say? The Mayor's Conference: Where 700 Mayors from throughout the country descend upon Miami to weigh in on policy issues affecting metropolitan areas. Local, state, and
national activists - like DFAM- are working together on a series of actions to
welcome these mayors with the message “Fund Our Cities, Not the War in Iraq.”
And we want you there. Check our calendar for all the event postings.
The events kick off Friday, June 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM with a Money for Cities, Not War press conference. It will be held down the street from the
InterContinential Hotel with veterans, peace activists, religious and
community leaders. There will be a parade (New
Orleans Funeral Style at Sankofa Site corner of NW 2nd Avenue and NW 7th Street), a reception, and a Food Not Bombs food drive. Friday is capped with a rally at 5:30pm by land and by sea at Vizcaya (where the Mayor's are meeting for dinner). On Saturday there will be a parade of terrorists organized by CODEPINK on Calle Ocho and on Sunday there's a Peace Reception at the Wallflower Gallery.
Barack Obama and Bill Clinton will be there. Howzabout you? Check the Calendar and RSVP if you can make the Vizcaya Rally.
