Today is the Fifth Anniversary of
Mission Accomplished
"[T]he president deserves everything he's doing tonight in terms of his
leadership. He won the war. He was an effective commander. Everybody
recognizes that, I believe, except a few critics. ... Here's a
president who's really nonverbal. He's like Eisenhower. He looks great
in a military uniform."

From True Majority:
Five years ago today, George Bush stood atop the USS Abraham Lincoln
and declared "Mission Accomplished in Iraq". Now, the war has entered
its sixth year, marked over 4,000 American troop deaths and is expected
to cost at least $3 trillion. The Bush Iraq war policy has failed and it's time for Congress to bring this war to an end.
Today,
fellow TrueMajority members will be delivering copies of the
Responsible Plan to Congress at over 200 events across the country.1 Back up their action with a call to your Representative.
Call your Representative Right Now
In
1994, the Republicans came up with a Contract with America that they
worked to implement as soon as they were sworn in. The contract laid
the groundwork for the current disastrous administration. This
time around, it will be up to us to make sure that whoever is elected
to Congress move briskly to enact the Responsible Plan and bring our
troops home.
Here's a suggested script:
I
am calling to urge the Representative to support the Responsible Plan
to End the War in Iraq. In the next few weeks, I urge the
Representative not to give the President another blank check to
continue this war, and to sign on as a supporter of the Responsible
Plan. The only way to accomplish real national security is to bring our
troops home.
